Happy Marriage

With a couple celebrating their 50th anniversary at the church's marriage marathon, the minister asked Brother Ralph to take a few minutes and share some insight into how he managed to survive with the same woman all these years.

The husband replied to the audience, "Well, I treated her with respect, spent money on her, but mostly I took her traveling on special occasions."

The minister inquired trips to where? "For our 25th anniversary, I took her to Beijing, China."
The minister then said, "What a terrific example you are to all husbands, Ralph. Please tell the audience what you're going to do for your wife on your 50th anniversary?"

Ralph: "I'm going to go get her."

Current Farm Town Profits by Day

Using current marketplace prices, I broke down the profits of each crop on one square of farmed land, per day. I used this basic formula:

(MARKET PRICE - COST OF SEEDS) / DAYS UNTIL HARVEST = DAILY PROFIT

As you can see, grapes are by far the best deal, but you must take into consideration they would have to be harvested 6 times a day to make this many coins. But even at only two times a day, they are still the best deal.

Grapes 216 (72 if harvested twice a day)
Cabbage 62
Potato 59
Watermelon 57
Peas 56
Onions 56
Rice 55
Strawberry 55
Sunflower 54
Corn 51
Wheat 50
Coffee 49
Pumpkin 49
Tomatos 45

We Irish Aren't Lost

Years ago, the Irish would switch street signs around in an attempt to confuse the British soldiers.

Late one evening an officer approached an old Irish woman returning home from the pub.

"Excuse me, old woman" he said. "Can you tell me where we are by chance?"

The old Irish woman tilted her head, "Aye, you're in Ireland" she replied.

The officer didn't have much patience, but he stayed calm.

"No, I mean... Where does this street lead?" he responded.

"Aye, I understand" replied the Irish woman. "It leads right down there."

The officer, now becoming frustrated, raised his voice.

"Madam, I am asking you, where does this road GO?" he yelled.

The old Irish woman lowered her head and quietly responded.

"The road goes nowhere sir, it jest lays here in the same place, day in and day out."

The officer threw his arms in the air and shouted at the top of his lungs.

"You Irish are sooooooooo stupid!!!!!!" he barked.

"Aye, we might be stupid" replied the woman calmly. "But at least we aren't LOST."

Shaving

One of the most miserable experiences of my day is having to shave. I can't stand it. It is like 15 minutes of torture from the time I begin until the time I stop.

I started out having to shave at a young age. All the other boys in my class still had baby smooth skin, but not me. My mustache was getting so dark and thick the SCHOOL made me shave before I could return to class. I know, it sounds crazy in this day and age, but this was circa 1980 and back then they said junior high boys with mustaches looked "thuggy". And lack of compliance didn't get you out of homework, it got you spanked. Then again by mom when you got home, and a few shots from dad upon his arrival.

By the time I was 13 I was having to shave basically every day. And as I got older, the faster it grew and the tougher my hair became. But I still don't like having a beard, or even a mustache, so I shave nearly every day that I have to work outside the home.

Of course, once I found a great shaving cream that actually worked, but it was expensive as could be. I guess it cost too much for everyone else because after a couple of years, it disappeared off the shelves.

I just wanted to rant for a bit before I go and start raking the razor over my face. Once again.

MP3 Players

I’ll never forget when cassette tapes came out, and before long they created a portable player than could be clipped on your hip. Unfortunately, they still weighed a ton and were an eyesore, but it was the best technology at the time.

But now there are Mp3 players, and these things rock! Small, light, and can hold a lot of music!

Why So Much Homework?

I was talking to my mother this evening, who was a teacher for years upon years, about the amount of homework given to kids, and complaining how ridiculous I thought it was. It seems each and every year the kids have more and more homework, and the age at which homework is appropriate gets younger and younger.

Those people on the pro-homework side of the argument always say the same thing- kids don't have enough time during the school day to complete all their work, therefore they must bring a large bulk of it home each day.

And on the surface, that is a reasonable argument. But only on the surface.

My response is this- WHY?

If there is not enough time to finish their assignments at school, and its impossible to reduce the amount of work, then why don't we increase the length of the school day? As a logical problem solver, this makes a lot of sense and I don't see why anyone wouldn't implement it as soon as possible (read: TOMORROW!).

First, as a general rule, American school days are some of the shortest on the planet.

Second- Why do we send the kids home to be taught by people who are not professional teachers? These same people who pile homework on and expect the parents to help their children complete it are the same ones who have a stroke at the mere mention of a child being home schooled. So do they think its okay to homeschool part of the day, just not all of it? It makes no sense.

If it is necessary for an 8 year old third grader to have two hours of a homework a night, why not just increase the school day by two hours and let them finish it there, under the supervision of professional teachers? The child has to do the work anyway, and the school should be more conducive to learning than a living room. So why send them home to do it, where they are distracted, tired, and feel as though they are done with their day?

And most parents would love it, as it would save enormous amounts of money in daycare costs. Where, by the way, most of the kids are doing their homework. Duh!
