Steel Buildings

Steel buildings are becoming more popular by the day. These custom designed, inexpensive buildings provide a great alternative to traditional warehouse and office needs.

With Olympia steel buildings an engineer will give you a quote within 24 hours, and it will be the lowest in the industry.

But this doesn’t mean they slide on quality. These steel buildings will last you a lifetime. By selling directly to you, they can cut expenses and save you valuable money.

End of an Era- Pontiac

The buzz of the day is GM's decision to cease making its Pontiac line of vehicles. For over 80 years, this brand has been an American mainstream, and it is unfortunate that it must now come to an end.

While no official announcement has been made, there's no reason to doubt we won't hear more about it on Monday.

For many, the discontinuation is nothing more than another brand that is a tragic result of our terrible economy. But for me, the name has significant meaning, and I hate to know that others will not reap the joy that I had with my Pontiac.

My first car was a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am. It was the first year the "new" body design rolled out, the smaller more precision car taking the place of the long time favorite "Smokey and the Bandit" body style.

I have many, many hours of fun in that car, and the memories of those Texas evenings cruising around in circles with the music blaring will never leave me.

Its the end of an error, and for that I am sad. But I am also happy that I have the memories that will remain with me forever.

Crazy Weather

If I have a nerve left in my body, this crappy Texas weather is getting on it. One day it is freezing, cloudy, even sleeting, then the next its up to nearly 80 and sunny as can be.

The other day it was 77, yet got down to 25 that night. Some areas it was down to 23. Then it went back up into the 60s, then back down to the low 20s, then hovered for an entire day in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Yet the next day its back up into the 50s. Then the next the 70s. Arrrgh!

At least we've only had one major ice storm and that just lasted a day. Hopefully we will evade it again this year. But, last year our biggest snow came in March, and its happened in April before as well.

But does anyone here remember when March was warm? And April was actually SPRING?

Grrrrrr!

Airport Construction

Over the last few months I've seen the surveyors out at the airport, and then eventually the signs went up saying to expect delays, that there would be "alternate routes" for those traveling around the outside service road.

Since there isn't much traffic, I wondered how much of a delay could possibly occur.

For the last few days I have found out. Hours. That's how many. Taking a four lane road and lowering it to two lanes takes an otherwise empty road that rolls along at 45 mph and turns it into a parking lot. Actually, driving through most parking lots is faster.

I don't know how long the project will last. In the USA, we seem to drag them out for years longer than necessary. But hopefully once it is done, it will be back up to 45 mph again.

42 Negative Confessions

The Papyrus of Ani from The Book of the Dead list the 42 Negative Confessions. Kemetics incorporate the principles of these 42 Negative Confessions into their lives to guide themselves toward obtaining "Ma'at". Ma'at is the concept of balancing everything in life. It is an ancient Egyptian's guide to morality and truth.

It is believed, when the body dies, the soul travels with the Great God Ra through the hours of Tuat, ending with one's judgment within the Great Hall of Ma'at. During this time of judgment, Anubis will weigh the heart on a scale and compare it to Ma'at's feather.

If the heart is heavier than the feather, the soul is destroyed by being fed to the beast Ammit. If the heart is lighter, it means Ma'at has been achieved. Only then is the soul allowed into the Abode of Osiris - the Eternal Field of Reeds - where mortals shall live amongst the great Gods and Goddesses.

The 42 Negative Confessions are coined as such because they begin with a negative statement, "I have not......". And some seem duplicated, a tragic result of attempting to interpret and recreate an ancient language. In their original form, they would be stated as, for example, #1- "Not have I done wrong".

The following list was translated in 1895 by Egyptologist E. A. Wallis Budge, with the divine names added to a later edition in 1913.

1. Ani saith: “Hail, thou whose strides
are long (Usekh-nemmt), who comest

Farm Town on Facebook

A few weeks ago a friend sent me a request to join her as a neighbor on Farmtown. At first I wasn't interested, because I don't usually have the time to address all the "things" people send me online. But after she sent me a couple of items that I could use on my farm, such as a fruit trees and animals, I decided to check it out. If nothing else, it would be courteous to at least try since she had thought of me.

I'm so glad I took the 10 seconds for the application to load! I not only fell in love, I think I'm addicted (to farm town, not my friend).

Farmtown is a cute cartoonish type of game where you start with a plot of land, some coins, and then begin building your farm from the ground up, literally. You start by plowing, traveling to the store to buy seeds, then planting and harvesting them. You can earn more coins to increase the size of your crops and farm by selling your harvest and helping others harvest their crops.

Farmtown is a realtime "ruralbuilder" as I call it, a spin off of the term "citybuilder" genre. A day in Farmtown last about 20 hours, and each crop not only brings in a different amount of coins at the market, they also have a varying number of days before the crops are ready for harvest. The typical seeds range from 100 to 400 coins and take from 1 to 3 days to be ready for harvest.

I have been a citybuilder game lover for years. It started with Pharaoh back in circa 1998, and over the years I've put a fair share of time into Caesar, Children of the Nile, Age of Mythology, Space Colony, Roller Coaster Tycoon, The Sims, Sim City, Kingdom of Keflings, and any and all of the sequels available.

If you enjoy just piddling around and relaxing after a long days work, Farmtown will probably be a game you would enjoy, especially if you have any history of enjoying other citybuilder type games. All you need is Facebook, and the best part is its FREE!

Thanks Liberty for introducing me to this fun and entertaining game!

My First Filipino Movie in Tagalog

The first Filipino language movie I ever saw at the theater was "I Will Always Love You".

Annie Lou and I escorted her friend Rogie and a neighborhood girl named Valery to the theater after loading up at the grocery with candy and drinks (especially chocolates), and shoving them into Annie's oversized bag so we wouldn't have to buy them at the theater. One great thing about movie theaters in the Philippines- you don't have to sneak them in, its allowed to bring in food and drinks from the outside.

I really enjoyed the movie, even though I couldn't understand a lot of the words. It was mostly in Tagalog, but there was quite a bit of "Taglish", an English-Filipino mix. At first Annie was trying to interpret some, but as the movie went on, I realized I understood more Tagalog than what I thought I did. Also, as most people are aware, Filipinos are quite animated, so it wasn't difficult to keep up with the plot.

It was a typical teenage love movie. Two teens in love, one family poor, the other wealthy, and one family not wanting them to be together. The stage was in both the Philippines and San Francisco, USA.

The best part of the movie was the beginning, when the young couple was kids and their characters introduced. Saying more would ruin the surprise and the laughs, but I knew right away that I'd enjoy the movie, just from that first few minutes.

Glade Scents- I'm confused

In Walmart the other day I was looking at some household odor eliminators and picked up a can of Glade Scents. Dying of boredom while the wife shopped for groceries, I spun it around and began to read the back.

No surprisingly, everything was written in both English and Spanish. Now, I'm not someone who thinks that English is the "national language". There is no such thing, and personally I hope there never is. Even my own wife speaks English as a second language.

But what stuck out in my mind, was the Spanish was translated word for word all the way down the label, until the very end where it stated, "All Rights Reserved".

I looked for the Spanish equivalent, but it was nowhere to be found. There wasn't even room enough on the label for it. So it got me to wondering, do they not reserve all their rights from those that speak Spanish?

Since English is the universal language, why would they discriminate against everyone but Spanish speakers? Or, maybe they are even more diabolical than what I first imagined- do they expect everyone to speak Spanish and only discriminate against those that can't?

Why do they reserve their rights for one group and not another? Or maybe they are prejudice and think that people who speak Spanish have no right to take their rights, so they only need to protect themselves from those that speak English.

This will definitely need some more investigation. Stay tuned for the most Current Situation.
