The first Transformers movie was mediocre at best, but it was interesting watching a movie on the big screen about the toys my nieces and nephews used to play with so much. But I felt the movie was lacking, especially with the action, and new it could have been much better.
Then earlier this year Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was released, and though the critics seemed to hate it, I gave it a chance based on the awesome trailer as well as some peer reviews I'd read about it. I'm glad I did.
While excessively long, the movie seems to take all that was wrong with the first and scrap it, then toss in everything that was missing and provide an overload of Transformer history and action.
The chases and action kick off from the very beginning and don't stop until the final credits. The special effects are awesome as well.
Mixed in with some adult humor and one liners, the movie is ridiculously over the top, but I believe that is what makes it so fun and entertaining. I didn't rent it to see drama. I didn't rent it to see romance. I rented it to see killer special effects, huge robot battles, and nonstop action. Without a doubt, it provided all three of those, plus more.
Shia LaBeouf has grown up, and I believe he is paving his way to be an action star that shouldn't be missed. In Transformers ROTF, he provides an excellent balance of good-boy charm, mixed with a toughness and reluctant hero strength, and his character is believable and interesting.
The movie is rated PG-13 due to some adult humor, drug and sexual references, and intense action.
