Nicolas Cage stars as John Koestler, a professor who has lost his wife and is now hurdled into a world that isn't quite made up of random events as he has always believed. Deep in the bottle, this single father of a young son can barely keep it together, and the life altering events he discovers will only make it more difficult.
After his son brings home a note scribbled by a schoolgirl put into a time capsule in 1958, John realizes the numbers all over the page aren't just random, but instead a window into horrible events that have taken place in the past, and that will occur in the future.
