The buzz of the day is GM's decision to cease making its Pontiac line of vehicles. For over 80 years, this brand has been an American mainstream, and it is unfortunate that it must now come to an end.
While no official announcement has been made, there's no reason to doubt we won't hear more about it on Monday.
For many, the discontinuation is nothing more than another brand that is a tragic result of our terrible economy. But for me, the name has significant meaning, and I hate to know that others will not reap the joy that I had with my Pontiac.
My first car was a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am. It was the first year the "new" body design rolled out, the smaller more precision car taking the place of the long time favorite "Smokey and the Bandit" body style.
I have many, many hours of fun in that car, and the memories of those Texas evenings cruising around in circles with the music blaring will never leave me.
Its the end of an error, and for that I am sad. But I am also happy that I have the memories that will remain with me forever.
