No Bama?

I saw this and knew a few friends that would love to have it. Notice the "thumbs down" in the emblem. I didn't notice that until a little while ago, even though I've had this for weeks.

You’ll be happy you made the purchase of these safe, low voltage products instead of laying there cold and shivering for yet another winter.

Forgiveness

I spent my evening standing in front of the mirror, trying my best to copy this look. Once perfected, I'll be able to get forgiveness for ANYTHING!

Football and the Blonde

A guy took his blond girlfriend to her first football game. They had great seats right behind their team's bench. After the game, he asked her how she liked the experience.

"Oh, I really liked it" she replied. "Especially the tight pants and all the big muscles, but I just couldn't understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents."

Dumbfounded, her date asked, "What do you mean?"

"Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it, and then for the rest of the game they all kept screaming "Get the quarter back! Get the quarter back!"

The guy looked stunned as she continued.

"I mean, hellooooooooo!!! Its only 25 cents!!!"

Social Networking Sites, Part 2

In an earlier post I discussed a couple of social networking sites, and how I wanted to see the effect they had on my traffic. The first, Delicious, I sans'd it right off the bat because it became too much of an ordeal trying to sync it with my computer. Yes, it was great because it could be reached from anywhere I could get to the net. But my Mac and Iphone already do this with my bookmarks.

I would have used Delicious a little bit longer, had they given the option to change tags and make other changes in bulk. But instead, because they "want you to review each entry carefully and individually", they opted to make me change the settings individually for each bookmark. So instead of being able to simply import my Mac bookmarks, then quickly change the ones I want private to private, etc., I would have to go through each and every one. Ridiculous. So bye bye Delicious.

Blog catalog has been nice, but I haven't had time to work the community as much. Also, I don't seem to mix with the people there as much as I used to do on Yahoo 360, and places like the Entrecard forums. Maybe this is why I haven't had the time, is because I'm at a place I like more, or avoiding the one I don't like.

In an effort to speed up my blog, I've removed the widgets for both Blog Catalog and My Blog Log. I'll discuss MBL in another post soon.

But my personal results, if I was trying to drive traffic to my site, is the ROI is not worth it. A couple of clicks a day vs the time it takes to socialize isn't worth it. However, if I was only trying to socialize, it would be great, if I fit in more with that crowd.

A Different Moving Company

Some people think moving companies are all the same, but they aren’t. This one is unique. Instead of a full service move, you instead have the truck or container brought to you, then can pack it up over 3 business days. After its ready to go, they move you, then you have 3 more business days to unpack. Its a win-win for everyone. Save costs, and don’t worry about someone else loading your possessions.

Cable Company- Grrrrrrrr

Unfortunately there won't be a Stargate Atlantis update from me today. It seems the cable company has shut off one of our packages of channels. Whether intentional or not I don't know. They basics are still working, so I don't believe it is a technical problem, so I'll have to call and see what is up.

I guess I will be visiting the SGA yahoo group I'm a member of to get the scoop this week.

Grrrrrrrrrr!

A small bowl of ice cream?

We went to Pasados and since Annie doesn't like Mexican food, she opted for a "little bowl of ice cream". This is what she was brought!

Hurricane Ike Damage

I was reading about the damage done by Hurricane Ike, and its sad all of the destruction that it unleashed on south Texas. Luckily for us, we weren't affected that much, we had nothing more than some strong rain and some gusting wind. A few trees and signs couldn't take it, but most went okay.

It looks like most of the evacuation went okay. Though it is very frustrating to see the tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars they are having to spend to rescue people who are too stubborn or stupid to evacuate. What possesses a person to stand by and try to ride it out, I don't know. Some say God will save them, yet the last time I checked, God supplied us with smart people to tell us when to evacuate.

It reminds me of an old story, about a priest who fell in a deep hole and couldn't get out. After a while a guy walked by with a rope and told him he'd help him. "No" said the priest, "God will save me." A little while later, a guy with a ladder walked by and told the priest he'd help. Again, his offer was declined, because God would help him out. Eventually the priest died, and when he met God at judgement he asked the Lord, "Why didn't you save me?" The Lord shook his head and replied, "I tried! I sent a rope and a ladder!".....

Interesting quote

A friend of mine has a quote she uses as her email signature. I love this and wanted to share it.

"As unto the bow the cord is, so unto the man is woman, though she bends him she obeys him, though she draws him, yet she follows. Useless each without the other." Hiawatha

(read more about Hiawatha here).

Pick Up Lines

A few of my favorite pickup lines (and yes, sometimes they DO work!)

"Stop, drop, and roll, baby! You're on fire!"

"Your legs must be tired. You've been running through my mind all night."

"I'm an honest guy, so I'll tell you I have no interest in your mind whatsoever."

So guys- what is your best pickup line? And ladies, what's the worst you've heard? Or better yet, what's the worst you've heard but went ahead and went with the guy anyway?

Stargate Atlantis: 9/05/08 Episode

Michael's experiments give the perfect setup of a Stargate Atlantis zombie episode. We all knew it was just a matter of time before the SGA team came across a cave, colony, or entire planet of mutated monsters. Then, toss in an all female, extremely hot commando team, and the table is set and dinner is served.

The best part of this show was my wife watching it with me. She is one of those people that yells at the characters, yelps when she is startled, and is generally all-around fun to watch get horrified. Before getting married to me the scariest thing she'd ever watched was Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (well, she had seen a few George Bush press conferences, but unfortunately those aren't fiction).

So I really enjoyed the episode, both the sexy special ops ladies fighting for their survival, as well as my wife continuously asking the characters "why did you go in there??" and telling them, "Don't do that! Leave it closed!!"....

I am a zombie fanatic. I can't see enough of them get blown to bits and love the new and improved ways they always seem to slaughter them.

And if my counting was correct- wasn't there some zombies left at the end of the show? Maybe they will return?

Stargate Atlantis: 8/22/08 Episode

The Shrine was an interesting episode, not-so-much as in the plot, but the awesome performance of Dr. McKay.

His character, whose brain gets infected with an alien being, begins to regress mentally, and Rodney puts on a believable and tear jerking performance. The saddest part is he knows his mind is going, and watching it you begin to feel his sorrow, fears, and frustrations.

But luckily Ronan stepped in and remembered a place that made his grandfather better. It was known as "The Shrine". So the team takes Rodney there and low and behold- he gets better. It seems the radiation coming out of the shrine works against the creature inhabiting his brain, and after a little skull drilling by Dr. Hottie, the creature runs out and is blasted to death.

This is a slower paced episode than what I enjoy, but it was still entertaining, nonetheless.

Honesty

There was a farmer who sold a pound of butter to the baker. One day the baker decided to weigh the butter to see if he was getting a pound and he found that he was not. This angered him and he took the farmer to court.

The judge asked the farmer if he was using any measure. The farmer replied, "Your Honor, I am primitive. I don't have a proper measure, but I do have a scale." The judge asked, "Then how do you weigh the butter".

The farmer replied "Your Honor, long before the baker started buying butter from me, I have been buying a pound loaf of bread from him. Every day when the baker brings the bread, I put it on the scale and give him the same weight in butter. If anyone is to be blamed, it is the baker."

It is then so, we get back in life what we give to others.

Water Purifiers

Water flushes out our body of toxins and fats, and this is one of the many reasons that doctors always say to drink more water. But why drink more if what you are drinking is more unhealthy that what the water is cleaning out? With many places in the world, many of us unknowingly drink water filled with bacteria and germs.

But you don’t have to do this anymore, if you invest in water purifiers and get your water clean!

Do You Want a Large or Small?

I was running late today so I swung by Jack-in-the-Box for a burger on the way home. The conversation at the drive through went something like this-

Me: "I'd like a number five, please."

Voice in Speaker: "Small, medium, or large?"

Me: "Well, I'm kind of fat......" (and at this point I was going to chuckle, but before I could......)

Voice in Speaker: "I guess you need to decide if you want to be happy, or skinny."

I won't say which I opted for..... but anyone who knows me......
