In an earlier post I discussed a couple of social networking sites, and how I wanted to see the effect they had on my traffic. The first, Delicious, I sans'd it right off the bat because it became too much of an ordeal trying to sync it with my computer. Yes, it was great because it could be reached from anywhere I could get to the net. But my Mac and Iphone already do this with my bookmarks.
I would have used Delicious a little bit longer, had they given the option to change tags and make other changes in bulk. But instead, because they "want you to review each entry carefully and individually", they opted to make me change the settings individually for each bookmark. So instead of being able to simply import my Mac bookmarks, then quickly change the ones I want private to private, etc., I would have to go through each and every one. Ridiculous. So bye bye Delicious.
Blog catalog has been nice, but I haven't had time to work the community as much. Also, I don't seem to mix with the people there as much as I used to do on Yahoo 360, and places like the Entrecard forums. Maybe this is why I haven't had the time, is because I'm at a place I like more, or avoiding the one I don't like.
In an effort to speed up my blog, I've removed the widgets for both Blog Catalog and My Blog Log. I'll discuss MBL in another post soon.
But my personal results, if I was trying to drive traffic to my site, is the ROI is not worth it. A couple of clicks a day vs the time it takes to socialize isn't worth it. However, if I was only trying to socialize, it would be great, if I fit in more with that crowd.
