Hurricane Ike Damage

I was reading about the damage done by Hurricane Ike, and its sad all of the destruction that it unleashed on south Texas. Luckily for us, we weren't affected that much, we had nothing more than some strong rain and some gusting wind. A few trees and signs couldn't take it, but most went okay.

It looks like most of the evacuation went okay. Though it is very frustrating to see the tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars they are having to spend to rescue people who are too stubborn or stupid to evacuate. What possesses a person to stand by and try to ride it out, I don't know. Some say God will save them, yet the last time I checked, God supplied us with smart people to tell us when to evacuate.

It reminds me of an old story, about a priest who fell in a deep hole and couldn't get out. After a while a guy walked by with a rope and told him he'd help him. "No" said the priest, "God will save me." A little while later, a guy with a ladder walked by and told the priest he'd help. Again, his offer was declined, because God would help him out. Eventually the priest died, and when he met God at judgement he asked the Lord, "Why didn't you save me?" The Lord shook his head and replied, "I tried! I sent a rope and a ladder!".....
